Andoversford Point To Point promised a “great family day out” and didn’t they deliver.
A record crowd of over 6000 people attended to enjoy the event, officially known as the ‘Robert Hitchins Andoversford Grand Annual Meeting’ after the main sponsors.
RRA went along, also as sponsors and to experience the thrill of this classic piece of racing history.
A wonderful day was had by all with the sun beaming down over the rolling Cotswold hills and the camels thundering down the racecourse – yes, it’s not just horses at Point To Point these days.
The RE Camelmile TT Challenge, sponsored by Cheltenham firm R E Resource Group, saw four teams of camels competing in a downhill, flat race to raise funds for the very worthwhile bone cancer charity, Hannah’s Wilberry Wonder Pony.
The horses were fast and furious, even the under 14’s pony racing shook the ground as they sped past.
Clearly the good weather had provided a welcome excuse for getting out the picnic blankets and cool boxes. Families gathered, grandparents bounced babies on knees and dogs stole sausage rolls when no one was looking. The excitement in the air built as the day progressed, the horses raced and the sun beat down – definitely a quintessentially, balmy British Summers day.
And to top it off RRA’s dog, Lottie, was named as Dog Of The Day.
What’s better for a feelgoodfactor than a Sunday in the sunshine with family and a picnic.
