basement_progress_blogExcavation and demolition is moving on apace at RRA’s extensive basement extension and house refurbishment project in Barnes, southwest London. The programme for the first phase of the works is six months and will be followed by the above-ground works and the house refurbishment and decoration.

Detailed discussions have been had with the neighbours who are also excavating at the same time with no abatement in our progress. The project’s basement phase is being carefully constructed and managed by Knowles & Associates to ensure that the sequence of works is efficient and safe. The result will be a large games room, gym, treatment room, study and plant room with, of course, the rest of the house being refurbished to the highest standards.

The house is a Building of Townscape Merit and, consequently, prolonged negotiations were had, at an early stage, with Richmond Council’s conservation department. To improve the exterior look of the house, we are completely remodeling the poorly-designed mansard roof to something more in-keeping with the main house. The rear and side extensions are contemporary in design and will feature bespoke glazed panels giving full views into the garden and to the Wetland Centre beyond.

RRA are leading a multi-disciplinary team including cost consultants, interior designers, lighting designers and landscape designers.

We look forward to showing you more photographs as the works progress.

We’ll keep you posted.
