RRA are extremely proud to be the partners of the first major contemporary art fair in the Cotswolds, Fresh: Art Fair held at the fabulous Cheltenham Racecourse Centaur Centre. RRA Managing Director, Mark Powles, was keen to partner the event, “art and architecture are both about highly personal and subjective creations, it simply felt appropriate for us to support the fair.”
In particular, RRA has sponsored the installation of Sophie Ryder’s ‘Torsos’ for the fair, which was a rather bigger operation than we realised, involving liaising with the lovely Celia from Wetpaint Gallery and two deliveries on a long-reach crane trucks by specialist Damon Bramley of the Sculpture Transport & Installation company.
Sophie Ryder is one of the most famous contemporary sculptresses and is particularly well-known for her creation, ‘The Hare and The Minotaur’ which has been displayed at the heart of Cheltenham’s Promenade since 1998. Originally a temporary installation, public response to the piece was so overwhelming that it was acquired by public subscription – and this was in the days before crowdfunding!
Fresh: Art Fair was the brain child of Anthony Wardle and his daughter, Ellie, who runs the Paragon Gallery in Montpellier, Cheltenham. Together they organised the event which is hosting an impressive 45 of the UK’s leading galleries, showing 5,000 paintings and sculptures by 400 artists.
Art is one of those things that many people would like to purchase, but are often reluctant to take the plunge as it is such a wide field and can be a hefty investment. Fresh: Art Fair has tackled the hesitation by bringing such a varied selection together enabling people to really compare what is on offer and see what ‘takes your fancy’. And, if something does ‘take your fancy’ the Paragon Gallery is acting as an agent for finance company Own Art at the Fresh: Art Fair which enables every exhibitor at the fair to offer interest free credit on every single piece.
Fresh: Art Fair is on From 12th – 14th May at Cheltenham Racecourse
