The design approach for Canwood Farm Gallery Hereford, focused on creating a restrained architectural backdrop that allows the artwork to take centre stage. Working within the constraints of the existing buildings, the spaces were carefully adapted to achieve a clean and minimal aesthetic while retaining their original character.

An existing steel portal frame building was re-clad in vertical larch boarding, with detailing simplified to create a cohesive and understated external appearance. Alongside this, a traditional stone and timber framed barn was converted into the main gallery space.

Internally, the barn has been reimagined to provide gallery quality spaces, with underfloor heating, carefully integrated lighting and a contemporary steel staircase that introduces new circulation while sitting comfortably within the historic structure.

Lighting design plays a key role in the gallery, allowing individual artworks to be highlighted while also creating atmosphere for events and gatherings. The result is a flexible and welcoming environment that supports both private viewing and shared experiences.

Canwood Farm Gallery Hereford is available for public viewing at selected times, offering a unique opportunity to experience contemporary art within a rural Herefordshire setting.
