Specialist Conservation, Heritage and Ecclesiastical Works

Historic buildings need care, judgement and the right consents. We help you repair, adapt and upgrade heritage assets while protecting their character and significance, including listed buildings, Scheduled Ancient Monuments and assets within conservation areas. We guide churches through the faculty process of church reordering, working with the diocese and project stakeholders so approvals are clear and well considered.

We can also support funding bids, including assisting with applications to The National Lottery Heritage Fund (formerly the Heritage Lottery Fund), with strong proposals, clear drawings and robust heritage evidence. Our conservation work has been recognised with multiple awards including an RIBA Award for All Saints Church, Hereford.

Who We Work With

We bring in the appropriate specialists for your project and manage coordination throughout. This may include measured surveyors, structural and building services engineers, heritage advisers, ecologists, party wall surveyors, landscape designers and cost consultants.

About Our Specialist Conservation, Heritage and Ecclesiastical Works

Consents & Approvals:

Heritage projects often succeed or fail on the strength of the approvals strategy. We help you navigate the right route for your building and scope, including:

  • Listed building consent and planning applications
  • Scheduled Monument Consent (SMC) for works affecting scheduled monuments
  • Church of England faculty approval for works to churches and churchyards

We coordinate specialist input where needed and present information in a way that helps decision-makers say “yes” with confidence.

Scheduled Monument Consent: written consent is required before works to a scheduled monument can begin.

Faculty: permission for most physical changes is granted through the diocesan system and is called a faculty.

Heritage & Conservation Services:

Our work is conservation-led and practical. We can provide:

  • Condition and fabric surveys with prioritised repair recommendations
  • Conservation statements, heritage impact work and supporting documentation
  • Repair, alteration and extension design with sensitive materials and detailing
  • Accessibility improvements and upgrades that respect significance
  • Phased project planning to suit operational needs and budgets
  • Collaborative working with numerous stakeholders
  • Coordination of public consultation

Ecclesiastical & Community Buildings:

Church projects need a careful balance of worship, welcome, accessibility and community use. We support reordering, new facilities and better circulation, often within sensitive historic fabric. We can also help you plan works in phases to align with fundraising.

Funding Support:

Where funding is part of the plan, we can help support bids to The National Lottery Heritage Fund (formerly the Heritage Lottery Fund). This can include preparing heritage evidence and producing the drawings and visuals to help build a strong narrative and support the application.

Award-Winning Conservation Experience:

We have won multiple awards for conservation and heritage work, including an RIBA Award for All Saints Church, Hereford, alongside a long track record of recognised conservation projects. See more on our Awards page.
