A Better-Connected Home

Although the house offered generous space in a rural setting, its awkward floor plan did not suit our client’s requirements. RRA reconfigured the interior throughout to create clearer connections between rooms and an improved flow for everyday living.

The work included structural repairs, new floor finishes, renewed underfloor heating and upgraded lighting, together with completely remodelled bathrooms, an additional ensuite and a new kitchen. The entrance was also refreshed, creating a warmer welcome while retaining the house’s external character.

Restoring Warmth and Character

Black paint had given the timber beams far more visual weight than their structure deserved. Sand blasting revealed the natural timber beneath, immediately bringing warmth and lightness back into the rooms.

The staircase was refurbished and the indoor inglenook fireplace rebuilt around a new wood burner, creating a strong focal point for the living room and helping the renewed interiors feel comfortably established.

A Landing with a Social Life

The client wanted a relaxed place to gather, which led to one of the remodel’s most individual ideas. RRA and the client developed the generous first-floor landing into a fitted bar beneath the eaves, giving purpose and personality to space that might otherwise have remained purely for circulation.

RRA provided full architectural services from design concept through technical delivery and contract administration to completion, with works carried out by Leckhampton Builders. The finished home feels clearer, warmer and distinctly personal.

This project features as Week 27 of our #40Projects40Weeks series. Read how the remodel made this Gloucestershire country house feel like home.
