Home Sweet Forever Home

At RRA Architects, one of our greatest privileges is being invited back by existing clients to help them shape the next chapter of their lives. This beautiful, bespoke new-build bungalow is a perfect example of ongoing trust and collaboration.

From Garden Plot to Dream Plot

Our clients approached us when they decided it was time to downsize and were looking to design their forever home; something low-maintenance, energy-efficient and future-proofed. They did not want to move and their existing property had a generous garden; with some clever thinking (and a successful negotiation with a kind neighbour), they were able to secure the ideal plot right next door to their existing house.

This opportunity gave them the rare advantage of staying in the area they loved while creating a home tailored to their needs for retirement and beyond.

Bifold doors meeting at a corner, can open out to provide a wonderful link from indoors to outdoors. Which is especially appreciated when your garden is as beautifully landscaped as this one.

A Home Designed for Life

The brief was clear and considered: four bedrooms, energy efficiency, simple construction and easy to “lock-up-and-leave” for those retirement holidays in the sun. While the finish needed to be high-end, the budget had to be kept within the proceeds of their existing home’s sale – a balance that many homeowners strive for.

At RRA, we focused on a design that was both architecturally interesting and buildable, creating a stepped roofline that adds character while remaining practical. The use of oversized rooflights allows natural light to pour in, creating bright, airy spaces that feel connected to the outdoors.

Materials were carefully chosen for longevity, ease of maintenance and style – including striking splice-brick detailing and a layout that ensures the house will function beautifully for decades to come.

Bringing in the Right Team

Once planning permission was granted, we introduced our clients to Precision Builders Ltd, a firm known for their craftsmanship and commitment and, from experience, we knew could deliver the quality this project deserved. From day one, their team embraced the vision and worked closely with both us and the clients to realise every detail.

Design has been kept simple with the bathrooms, although understated features, such as concealed mood lighting, add a little extra touch of style.

Despite some challenges – including sloping ground, tight access and deep boundary walls – the project was executed with skill and care. The result is a home that looks effortless and stylish.

The gardens, designed by our client, are the perfect finishing touch – beautifully landscaped and in harmony with the house and its setting.

The elegance and simplicity of the outdoor space creates a wonderfully, tranquil retreat.

From Sketches to Stunning Reality

We’re absolutely delighted to see our 2D designs turned into such a warm and elegant home for a wonderful couple. It’s a shining example of what’s possible when clients, architects and builders work together from the start with a shared vision.

We’re proud of what’s been achieved here and wish our clients a long and happy life in their dream home.
